Riley was a seven-month old street cat in our neighborhood in Maryland.  She was laying in the street washing herself and didn’t even flinch as our Jeep went by.  I decided then that she was going to get herself killed and took her back to the house.  I put some food and water on the deck in the backyard, and there she stayed for a couple of weeks.  She was affectionate from the start.  I thought about finding a good home for her, but that never happened.  After a trip to the vet and time for the anti-parasite medication to take hold, she was allowed to come inside.  She did not receive a warm welcome from our other three cats, but the dogs, having already become acquainted with her on the deck, thought she was ok.  Since then, Riley has been a great addition to the family.
