This morning I woke up early, yes, earlier than usual, prepared some coffee and sat down at the computer to see how the election was going. At 4:35 AM, the state of Ohio had just been declared for Obama. I knew at that point the election was over, and Senator Obama was now the president-elect. As I began to get the boys ready for our morning walk, Senator McCain began his concession speech. It was the kind of speech I expected from this great person. I am a little saddened about McCain’s loss, because this was his last shot at the White House. He is a good man and a great American. His work in the senate crossing the aisle to make the congress get things done during the very polarized Bush era deserves recognition and praise. However, I can’t help but feel that the nation needed someone who might do a slightly better job at uniting the American people. President-elect Obama has an amazing gift for giving people hope when he speaks. He doesn’t think like the old guard, and I think that might be a good thing. Is this a new dawn? Maybe.
CONGRATULATIONS Senator Obama!
